Hunger 101 Course
Hunger 101 is a thought-provoking way for your business, school, congregation, or service group, to learn about hunger in our community. We designed this hands-on learning experience for groups of 10 to 30 students. Geared towards adults, this one hour class is free of charge and can be conducted here at REFB, or at a meeting place of your choice. You can also sample it online, click here.
Each participant is assigned the profile of a low-income individual, and allocated limited resources. Your challenge is to get enough food to feed yourself or family. You’ll shop at our simulated grocery store, visit our “soup kitchen” and “food pantry,” and apply for CalFresh (formerly known as food stamps). The exercise closes with a group discussion about your experience, and what you can do to help end local hunger.
